We read in books about land owning freed African Americans countlessly being taken advantage of and manipulated into giving their land back, and those stories always evolve around a central theme...knowing the law. Yet we go into these workplaces daily, expecting the people within them to not exploit us, the labor?

A person enduring the type of workplace illegalities on such a blatant and consistent basis, regardless the race of the employer, as we have described in this series, means nothing if we are the only one's who learn from it. According to Strada Education Foundation's data:

• 52% of college graduates are underemployed in their first job

• 45% are STILL underemployed after 10 years

• First jobs shape long-term earnings trajectory

• Black, Latino, and first-generation graduates face the worst outcomes
